I’ve been editing for over six years.

Hi! My name is Kallista Ann, and I’m a developmental editor and book coach.

I work with Story Grid, Author Accelerator, The Write Practice, and individual writers.

As a developmental editor, I take stories that don’t work and turn them into tales others want to read. As a book coach, I meet writers where they’re at and mentor them into becoming the authors they always dreamed of.

Throughout my career, I’ve been a teaching assistant at Story Grid, where I guided other editors into learning the skills of developmental editing. I’ve been a host at ProWritingAid during their Romance Writer’s Week; I participate in “Mastering Line-by-Line in Fiction: A Live Scene Writing Workshop,” where I give writers feedback on their scenes. You can also catch me helping writers through the 100-Day Book Program, where I coach struggling writers through finishing their first draft.

My Core Beliefs

  1. I believe in the power of education. Every writer can create a great novel. The #1 issue holding them back is understanding how to build skills.

  2. I believe in asking why. Questioning why certain advice works or how a novel could get away with going against the grain is the best path to understanding how to write and truly getting it.

  3. I believe all stories are meaningful. There are no “trashy” novels in my eyes. Every book is delivering something important to the world. Whether it’s giving readers a reprieve from a harsh present or delivering a heartwarming message, all stories matter!

  4. I believe in being honest in a way that inspires hope.” The point of the editing process is to guide writers to where they want to go, not crush them under the weight of their flaws.

Fun Facts About Me

I fit the small-town girl moves to the big-city trope.

Outside of reading, my favorite pastime is playing cozy games. (Stardew Valley, I’m looking at you).

I’m a huge swiftie. (Folklore and Evermore are her best albums, and I will be accepting no criticism on that).

My nerdiness knows no bounds. After Taylor Swift, you’ll catch me jamming to show tunes. (What can I say? I love a little razzle-dazzle.)

I love exploring new things and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
